An evolution of the former single-cylinder BMW F650GS, the 2010 G650GS joins the BMW Motorrad lineup with an MSRP of $8,750.

The re-birth of a classic liquid-cooled, DOHC single cylinder with technical upgrades now producing 50 hp through an upgraded fuel injection system. Standard equipment includes heated grips and new lightweight ABS available in Canada in two colours.

The familiar 652cc liquid-cooled four-valve DOHC powerplant remains little changed from its predecessor, featuring BMW’s Digital Motor Electronics and fuel injection, engine management version BMS-CII, and high-performance cylinder head technology, producing 50 bhp at 6,500 and maximum torque of 44 ft-lb at 4,800 rpm. Power transmission is still maintained by the proven five-speed gearbox and an O-ring chain drive.

The new G 650 GS’s brake system, however, is upgraded with standard ABS featuring the new generation BMW Motorrad Bosch 8 M ABS control unit weighing only 1.5 kilograms. ABS can also be deactivated, as on the GS boxer twins. Single discs brakes at both front and rear measure 340mm and 240mm, respectively.

The new G650GS continues with a stiff steel bridge tubular frame with bolt-on lower frame section and rear subframe. The 19-inch front spoke wheel is suspended by a Showa telescopic fork with 170 mm/ 6.7" spring travel. The 17-inch rear wheel runs in a two-arm box-type swingarm with a central spring strut with adjustable preload and travel of165 mm/ 6.5" . Standard seat height is a very compatible 780mm, with an optional lowering kit available for $200 ex-factory.

With heated grips also fitted as standard equipment, the new G650GS is available in two colors – Deep Black and Red, both combined with a black tank, further highlighted by matte black engine surface. The new level of standard equipment leave only two available options – the aforementioned lowering kit and a centre stand ($170).

The most popular dual purpose single in the 250+cc category, the G 650 GS has become the standard upon which single-cylinder dual purpose motorcycles are judged. Aggressively engineered for unrelenting performance in harsh environments, the G 650 GS was designed to take riders off-road and on to new frontiers. The 2009 model features a 2 SPARK ignition system, a 3-position clutch lever, newly designed windscreen, accessory power socket, and improved on-board electronics.

The “GS” is not just able to handle everything, it is actually built to do so. And in this synthesis of easy handling, supreme touring suitability, off-road potential and comfort for rider and pillion passenger, there’s simply no other motorcycle which does it better. That’s not just what we think: it’s the result of independent tests worldwide.

Yet the current version goes one step further still - with a level of 2-cylinder power which is unsurpassed, and not just within its own segment. The reason is the new DOHC engine*, which first displayed its impressive performance in the legendary HP2 Sport. For the R 1200 GS, torque was given higher priority than output in line with practical considerations. And you can feel it. 120 Nm at the peak at 6000 rpm is one thing, but the consistently higher level of torque in the relevant range up to 5000 rpm can be fully experienced. The output has been increased to 81 kW (110 bhp) at 7750 rpm. The supreme riding pleasure is underscored by a powerful sound from the new exhaust system with exhaust flap which will everyone will love. Together with the new paint finishes, a wide range of special equipment features such as the unique off-road ESA and ASC and extensive motorcycle fittings, there is virtually no situation in which the R 1200 GS doesn’t fit perfectly. And that applies to all riders - so take a test ride now!?

* DOHC = Double Overhead Camshaft, two overhead camshafts per cylinder

The new BMW R1200GS is one of a kind. An unstoppable machine that offers unlimited freedom to the rider. It is equally serene on tarmac and rough terrain alike - so now the only restriction on your touring is how homesick you get. It features an upgraded drive train, an even more expressive design, and, for the first time, the Enduro ESA suspension option. The BMW R1200GS - because even the most free of spirits need something to rely on.

The 2010 model year R 1200 GS features a new updated boxer engine which gives you more torque at lower revs, improved responses and better acceleration across the rev range. The two-cylinder DOHC (Double overhead camshaft) engine delivers 120 Nm at 6000 rpm, and output has been increased to 110hp at 7750 rpm.

With the BMW F 800 R, BMW Motorrad expanded its F 800 model series for 2009, presenting a sporty roadster designed for a high level of riding dynamics and maximum riding pleasure in the segment of the medium category naked bikes. In addition to the two roadsters R 1200 R and K 1300 R, it was the third BMW roadster to see its international premiere in the BMW Motorrad Urban world of experience.

But it wasn’t just on public roads that the dynamic BMW naked bike swiftly made a name for itself. The extreme ease of handling which the F 800 R allows its rider was demonstrated by four-times World and European Stunt-Riding Champion Chris Pfeiffer as long ago as 2007 and 2008 on an F 800 S specially adapted to his needs and closely resembling the later F 800 R. Since the official presentation of this model in November 2008 in Milan, motorcycle acrobat Chris Pfeiffer has now been riding the new F 800 R at international competitions and shows – on a version which is only distinguished from the serial production machine in some details.

In the course of 2008, Chris Pfeiffer took part in stunt shows and contests on 85 days - and this year his appointment schedule is equally full. Chris Pfeiffer says: “No matter whether it’s about me as an individual, as a freestyle rider or as a racing rider: it’s always a question of being creative and showing the audience new, exciting things. It is simply amazing when the crowd starts to cheer even before you’ve started. I really appreciate the great support provided by BMW, and for me the F 800 R is simply the perfect stunt motorcycle – as demonstrated by my recent success.”

All this was reason enough for BMW Motorrad to mark Chris Pfeiffer’s success on the new F 800 R by bringing out a special model, the BMW F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer, closely resembling his competition bike. In addition there are the elaborate paintwork , the special edition sports Akrapovic® muffler and other features to enhance the motorcycle’s sporty style. The basic technical characteristics remain unchanged from the standard model.

The engine in the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer is again the liquid-cooled parallel twin with 4-valve technology and with a capacity of 798 cc. As in the F 800 R, the in-line 2-cylinder engine provides especially impressive pulling power, spontaneous response and a low level of fuel consumption.

Even in the lower engine speed range, the 4-valve engine - not especially short-stroke in design, with a bore/stroke ratio of 82.0 to 75.6 millimetres - quickly increases engine speed, building up 90 per cent of maximum torque at just 5,000 rpm. Between 5,000 and 8,000 rpm the engine provides an impressively dynamic level of power delivery, to the accompaniment of a unique sound. With a nominal output of 64 kW/87 bhp at 8,000 rpm, the engine produces a torque of 86 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Chris Pfeiffer on the unique twin: “The engine is loads of fun - I love its response even in the low and medium engine speed range, as well as its enormously wide rpm range, both when riding on the road and for stunt riding. Then there is the perfect throttle response and sensitive controllability of the 2-cylinder engine - absolutely imperative to be able to perform spectacular stunts.”

In its design, the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer is the same as that of its eponym from the Allgäu. The multicolour paint finish in the BMW Motorsport colours of Alpine White non-metallic, Lupine Blue metallic, Magma Red non-metallic and Black silk matt contrast with the black drivetrain and swing arm; a white front wheel completes the sporty outfit.

The standard, painted pillion passenger seat cover of the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer also reflects the machine’s sporty purpose. The fact that it does not have cockpit fairing merely serves to emphasise the powerful, purist character of this special model. The F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer also attains a very high level of individuality, authenticity and value due to the overpainted Chris Pfeiffer signature on the central cover and the sponsor stickers which are supplied with the bike and can be optionally applied.

In terms of riding dynamics, the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer delivers everything its sporty exterior promises. The “little roadster” by BMW Motorrad has already found more than 3,000 fans since May for its very agile, sporty performance. This is just what Chris Pfeiffer wants for his shows and competitions and will be much appreciated by sports-oriented motorcyclists on winding country roads or in the mountains.

Features which contribute to the exceptional dynamic performance in the F 800 R are the low weight of just 199 kg fully fuelled, the sprint-oriented gear ratio and the chassis, which is specially adapted to the demands of a sporty naked bike with light alloy bridge frame and dual rear wheel swing arm. Uniquely for the special model F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer, the spring of the rear spring strut is finished in red to match the bike’s sporty multicolour paint finish.

Chris Pfeiffer himself is happy to confirm the excellent chassis properties from his virtually day-to-day contact with the F 800 R: “The fact that no changes have been made to by competition version shows just how easy the F 800 R is to ride. I simply vary the tyre pressure, depending on road conditions. That really says it all.”

The new F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer is fitted as standard with the very sporty rear silencer by Akrapovic®, otherwise only available as a special accessory. Its main advantages over the standard silencer are reduced weight and a throatier sound. Like the sporty rear silencer, the LED direction indicators (for Canada: white direction indicators) contribute to the dynamic appearance of this special model.

In addition to this, the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer can also draw on the extensive BMW Motorrad option and accessory program to fulfil any further customer demands in terms of individual equipment features.

The market launch will be at the beginning of September 2009.

Chris Pfeiffer was at the Berlin Spandau plant in person at the beginning of July 2009 for the start of serial production of this F 800 R special model: he lent a hand himself and even rode the very first BMW F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer off the assembly line. As a small thank-you for this first special model bearing his name, the four-times World and European Stunt-Riding Champion provided a “best of” selection from his numerous stunt shows and competitions for the staff at the BMW Motorrad production plant. As he said when it was all over: “I am very pleased and proud that there will be a BMW Motorcycle on sale which bears my name. I regard this as both a great honour and powerful source of motivation. Riding the first machine to bear my signature off the production line really was a unique experience.”

Features and Specifications
Here is an overview of the main features of the new BMW F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer as compared to the standard model:

• Akrapovic® rear silencer for a dynamic appearance and a sporty sound.
• Spring of rear spring strut finished in red.
• Painted pillion passenger seat cover.

The evolution of the Shiver project has no limits. The Aprilia naked that has surprised the world with its technological content which is still not within reach of its competitors, has perfected itself even further with interventions that aim at increasing its personality, riding fun and ergonomic features.

In terms of special features, Aprilia Shiver 2010 is without doubt the benchmark bike in the medium cc naked sector. A highly evolved engine fitted with latest generation integral Ride by Wire, a multimap, a first-rate chassis which is able to satisfy all levels of riders, and technical outfit that no other bike even comes close to.

Today, these features are highlighted by an even more racing look, with the arrival of a new top fairing and aggressive Wave discs. At the same time, Aprilia Shiver has come even closer to satisfying the needs of riders, with totally revamped ergonomics, a 5 cm slimmer saddle to provide better control optimising bike handling not only on the road, but also when the engine is switched off. The rider and passenger footpegs are also new and contribute to lending the bike an enhanced sporting look. The moved-back rider footpegs and the new handlebar inclination allow for a more sporting use. Thanks to these updates the Aprilia Shiver M.Y. 2010 is now a far more fascinating bike.

There are a few key issues which mark the success of Shiver. It is a high-performance efficient bike which can seduce even the most demanding rider, but it is also able to bring on those who are new to the two-wheeled scene, as it is so easy to ride. The 2010 version maintains this as a prerogative. In fact, the new lower and slimmer saddle provides for extra and more effective control.

The main features of the Aprilia 750 Shiver my 2010 are:

= V2 90° engine with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft and liquid cooling;
= the integral Ride-by-Wire tri-map technology developed for competitions;
= modular trellis/aluminium frame with significant torsional rigidity;
= aluminium swingarm with stiffener brace and lateral shock absorber;
= 43mm upside down fork;
= racing brakes with radial callipers and 320mm Wave discs
= New more protective top fairing
= New lower and slimmer saddle
= New racing style rider/passenger footpegs

Design
The new Shiver roundly focuses on racing aspects. The new colours, the wave-style discs and the new racing rider footpegs are just a few of the signals that Shiver sends out to those observing it. The line remains very streamline and Italian and thanks to the clever use of the new colours and graphics, Shiver moves up a few notches as far as balance and aggression are concerned, highlighting some techniques that really make a difference, such as, for instance, the side shock absorber or the mixed steel trellis frame and aluminium plates.

The engine
The V90 engine is the result of the extensive experience Aprilia has in high performance mechanics. Thanks to its peculiar technical features the Aprilia twin-cylinder is able to combine an exceptionally high level of output with maximum exploitation rates and user-friendly riding options. The research conducted to reach top performance levels in its category has led to the decision to adopt some advanced cutting-edge technical solutions. The Aprilia V2 750 engine has a number of core features: extremely generous torque over most of the rpm range, insignificant vibrations, smooth full power delivery and output levels which are top in its category.

The 2010 version of Shiver naturally uses the multi-map integral Ride by Wire technology that has been developed even further exploiting the racing experience gained with the RSV4 superbike. This technical solution obviously represents the state-of-the-art version of engine control systems and Aprilia Shiver confirms its technological leadership position in its sector.
One touch of starter button is all that is needed when the rider decides to select one of the three mappings, and radically change the character of the bike:

- "Sport" to have the "throttle in hand" when a rider needs to let off steam exploiting the entire character of this Italian twin cylinder bike;
- "Touring" when smoother power delivery and fluidity are essential during the moments when the racing desires are set aside to enjoy a more relaxing ride, even two-up;
- "Rain" when grip is not as good as it should be and maximum safety is the main objective.

Thanks to the technical solutions installed on this bike the V90 Aprilia is able to achieve outstanding output values. A maximum output of 95 hp at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 81 Nm at 7,000 rpm are exceptional performances. The amazing torque available even at bottom end means that nothing can beat Shiver on mixed tracks.

Chassis
The saying goes 'never change a winning team' and this is what Aprilia Shiver M.Y. 2010 focused on when choosing the chassis elements used on previous versions, starting from the tube trellis frame and the aluminium plates. The engine is exceptionally compact length-wise making it possible to obtain a highly agile bike, which is also helped by the particular choice to install the shock absorber on the side: this is not simply an aesthetic choice but a precise technical decision as it frees some extra space for the exhaust which can then benefit from optimal volumes.
The aluminium swingarm with the stiffener brace is dimensioned to withstand the asymmetrical stress caused by the lateral position of the shock absorber. The swingarm has benchmark rigidity levels in this category.

Suspension
The upside down fork has 43 mm stanchions with chill-cast bottom end to support the radial callipers and provide unparalleled smooth sliding action. The 120 mm travel makes it possible to easily face both urban and mountain roads.
The lateral shock absorber is fitted directly to the swingarm using a cantilever set-up and the spring preload and hydraulic rebound are adjustable; the rear wheel travel is 130 mm.

Brakes
Last year version already mounted the radial callipers, which are a solution that made this a pioneer bike in this sector. The Shiver 2010 version adds the new Wave discs and this choice not only provides for a different aesthetic impact, but also for a more decisive braking action.
The rear brake features a 245mm disc with single piston calliper to provide adequate support to the front system. The brake master cylinders have also been revamped to ensure even more effective braking response.

Both the front and rear systems have metal braided braking pipes, derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional pipes and guarantee maximum braking accuracy and top-class system.

It also comes in an ABS version, and adopts a 2-channel Continental system which is able to guarantee maximum levels of safety when braking in all conditions.
